Our expertise to accurately calculate your dismantling costs

RDRWind e.V.

We have been involved in the decommissioning of wind turbines for several years as a founding member of RDRWind e.V., the previous research project “DemoNetXXL” and the WindEurope TaskForce “Decommissioning of Onshore Wind Turbines”. Our focus is always on participating in new developments and taking them into account in our expert reports.

Versatile applications

We can help you accurately assess the cost of dismantling wind turbines to ensure you meet your dismantling obligations, make the right provisions and minimise your financial risks.

Due diligence

Reliable overview of the dismantling costs of your investment

Situation: When purchasing an existing wind farm, precise analyses of the dismantling costs are crucial for a sound financial assessment.

Solution: Our reliable dismantling cost calculation supports your due diligence and ensures transparency with regard to financial risks.

Application and project start

Reliable calculation of dismantling costs for each type of wind turbine

Situation: For the construction of new wind turbines (BImSchG), a precise provision amount is already required when the application is submitted.

Solution: Nefino provides well-founded dismantling cost estimates at an early stage in order to meet your financial obligations correctly from the outset.

End-of-life concept

Clarity about the amount of your dismantling costs

Situation: Your wind turbine is approaching the end of its service life. A precise calculation of the dismantling costs is now crucial.

Solution: Nefino prepares individual and up-to-date dismantling cost reports.

Our approach

Wind turbines are made from a variety of materials including concrete, steel, fibre-reinforced plastics and copper. Dismantling is complex and varies from turbine to turbine, so the cost of dismantling will vary accordingly. To ensure a complete cost analysis, all turbine and wind farm characteristics are included in our project-specific reports and included in the calculation.

WTG-specific material matrices

We have developed a comprehensive database on the material composition of wind turbines. Thanks to our collaboration with experienced dismantling companies, it contains practical and realistic data on all wind turbine models. These material matrices allow a specific calculation of dismantling costs for each turbine type.

Provision for restoration obligation

Current disposal costs and recycling proceeds

Many wind turbine components are recyclable and can be sold on the secondary materials market, including metals such as steel and copper. Other materials, such as concrete or operating fluids, require professional disposal. Our dismantling cost analyses take into account current and future recycling revenues and disposal costs to provide an accurate estimate of the dismantling costs for your wind energy project.

As individual as your wind farm – the price of our expert opinion

Our prices are as individual as your requirements. In order to offer you the best possible solution, we analyse your specific needs and prepare a tailor-made quotation.

Calculation of provisions for wind power plant dismantling obligations

Once the contract is awarded, a kick-off meeting is held to gather and agree all the necessary data. After processing, we hand over the comprehensive report and are available to answer questions during the final presentation.

Frequently asked questions

Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions about wind turbine decommissioning costs.

We will contact you as soon as possible after receiving your enquiry. Once we have received the order, we will arrange a kick-off meeting with you if required. Once we have all the relevant information (wind farm and turbine data, site plans, etc.) it will take 5 to 10 working days, depending on the size of the wind farm, before you receive the report. For urgent orders, the turnaround time can be reduced by agreement.

Yes, in addition to the so-called base scenario, the cost estimate for dismantling in accordance with the requirements of the dismantling obligation for wind turbines, including recycling and disposal of materials, we also provide cost estimates for other scenarios for the same wind farm, such as the repowering scenario or the secondary market scenario. This gives you the opportunity to weigh up the costs of different end-of-life options before the project starts.

Taking into account the inflation factor of 2% in accordance with the ECB’s standard specification, we calculate the cost surcharge for the dismantling date you specify. The cost and revenue estimates for the disposal and recycling of materials are regularly updated in consultation with the dismantling contractors.

Yes, we offer dismantling cost forecasts regardless of the location of the wind farm. The cost forecast takes into account current exchange rates and site-specific prices for labour, materials and recycling revenues. The report can be provided in English on request.

The formation of provisions for the dismantling of wind turbines to meet legal requirements is a key aspect of our reports. Depending on country-specific requirements, valuation rules or calculation formulae, we can explicitly take this into account.
